On Saturday, Feb 7, 2009 11 Booth volunteers joined alumni from Holy Cross College, Kellogg, Marquette University and Notre Dame, Holy Name Cathedral parishioners, Old St. Pat’s parishioners, and others in making a difference in the lives of the faculty, staff and students at St. Helena of the Cross Catholic School in Chicago. In just 3 hours we :
- painted the rectory
- painted 2 school bathrooms;
- painted a school hallway
- cleaned and painted the teachers lounge
- cleaned three school floors
- cleaned and organized the science storage area
- organized the school library
- washed classroom desks
- picked up trash
- raked leaves
- washed the church’s pews.
When they were done the school looked amazing! Pat Durkin, the principal, told us that her students were so excited when they returned back to school the following Monday. The volunteers truly helped to reinvigorate the school.
Special thanks to Booth alums and students Danita Childers, Ian Lue, Mohamed Okda, Jon Peterson, Susan Templeton, Elias Yanaki and their guests for helping make this event a truly fun and meaningful experience.
