On Saturday, January 17, 2009, Chicago Booth students, alumni and friends came together for an afternoon of Community Service at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The GCFD is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our communities. It distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 600 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 500,000 adults and children every year.
On our project, Booth volunteers cleaned, sorted, and repacked donated food and other products for delivery to local Chicago schools. The packages were prepared for distribution to needy students on Friday afternoons to supplement their weekend meals at home.
Overall, Booth participants agreed that it was an extremely rewarding experience. Please consider joining us on future Community Service events.
